Vocational Training
The Training Program
Training for Biotechnology laboratory assistants at Baltimore BioWork, Inc. (BBWI) runs in cohorts and the start dates and length of training is dependent upon the need for placement.
-
This training is usually 5 days a week for 6 weeks in length.
-
There are training modules offered every quarter.
-
Individuals advancing from The Maryland Biotechnical Institute to BBWI or Baltimore City Community College’s (BCCC) biotechnology programs are given priority.
-
BBWI supports some biotechnology major students studying at the BCCC BioPark location in their BTC (biotechnology) coursework.
-
The BCCC courses are offered in 16 week semesters in the Fall and Spring.
Information on registration and start dates can be obtained at www.bccc.edu. Applications are accepted, reviewed, and processed by BBWI only. Your application would need to be reviewed and processed by BBWI or BCCC biotechnology student support.
*Prior to the pandemic the modules at BBWI and courses at BCCC were face-to-face, hands-on laboratory and classroom learning. Current restrictions have produced virtual coursework and training modules. A computer and inter net access are necessary for participation at this time.
Upon completion of BBWI vocational training graduates would be assisted in applying to laboratory positions at the many biotechnology companies in the Baltimore Washington, D.C. corridor. Upon completion of the curriculum pathways at BCCC, students may obtain a Laboratory Animal Sciences, or Biotechnology Certificate and/or an Associates Degree in Biotechnology.
